About Friends of the Library

Friends of the Henderson County Public Library supports all county library locations by delivering a wide range of services that enrich and transform the lives of Henderson County citizens of all ages.

Specifically, the Friends provide essential support for our public library system by:

  • Purchasing books, media, furnishings and equipment needed to assure that our libraries remain among of the top mid-size county libraries in North Carolina

  • Funding many of the free cultural and entertaining programs available to the community at our library branches

  • Purchasing creative play and learning tools for young children (e.g. Lego tables and puppet theaters).

  • For teens we provide YA (young adult) books, STEAM (Science, Tech, Engineering, Arts and Math) materials and programs

  • Each summer, the Friends support the summer reading programs from Pre-School, K-5th graders, Teens (6th-12th grades) and Adults

  • Finally, the FOL provides development funds for library staff to gain new skills and ideas

Friends of the Library raises funds every year through sales of used books at the Friends of the Library bookstore. The sale proceeds are used to ensure that our libraries remain among of the top mid-size county libraries in North Carolina.

We Provide Support by...

Supporting the library financially:

Most of our annual fundraising is derived from donated books that are sold at our Book Store.  On a smaller scale, we also sell books in the lobbies of our libraries, and on Amazon.

We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit, dedicated to culturally enriching our community by promoting and supporting the Henderson County Public Library.
